A Ukrainian electronic warfare expert reported spotting new Russian drones with a ring-shaped wing structure flying over Ukrainian territory.

In a public statement, Serhiy Beskrestnov said that Russian forces have begun using drones with a ring-wing structure during operations targeting Ukrainian military assets.

According to him, these drones were recently observed operating in Ukrainian airspace and appear to be designed for both reconnaissance interception and ground attack roles.

According to Defence Blog, the project allegedly incorporates an aerodynamic ring-shaped configuration that surrounds the structure of an FPV drone.

This configuration, known in aerospace engineering as a closed wing or annular wing, can improve lift characteristics and reduce wingspan, enhancing portability and potentially extending range.

It is not yet clear at what stage the deployment of these new drones is or how effective they have proven in operational conditions. Ukrainian authorities have not issued a formal statement regarding the system’s combat performance.

Although the exact type and manufacturer of these drones have not been confirmed, similar ring-wing drone designs have already been publicized by Russian state media.

The models seen in previous promotional materials include the Kometa drone series, attributed to a company called Shag vpered (Step Forward), located in the Yelets district of the Lipetsk region in Russia.
